Radiation Damage Studies with Hadrons on Materials and Electronics
نویسندگان
چکیده
Many materials and electronics need to be tested for the radiation environment expected at linear colliders (LC) where the accelerator and detectors will be subjected to large fluences of hadrons, leptons and γ’s over their life[1]. Examples are NdFeB magnets considered for the damping rings and final focus, electronic and electro-optical devices to be utilized in detector readout and accelerator controls and CCDs required for the vertex detector. Effects of γ’s on many materials have been presented[2] and our understanding of the situation for rare earth permanent magnets at PAC2003[3]. Here we give first measurements of the fast neutron, stepped doses at the UC Davis McClellan Nuclear Reactor Center (UCD MNRC) together with the induced radioactivities. Damage appears to be proportional to the distances between the operating point and Hci.

Radiation Effects on the On-line Monitoring System of a Hadrontherapy Center
Introduction Today, there is a growing interest in the use of hadrontherapy as an advanced radiotherapy technique. Hadrontherapy is considered a promising tool for cancer treatment, given its high radiobiological effectiveness and high accuracy of dose deposition due to the physical properties of hadrons. However, new radiation modalities of dose delivery and on-line beam monitoring play crucia...

Many materials and electronic devices must be tested for their abilities to survive in the radiation environment expected at the proposed linear collider (LC). Radiation-sensitive components of the accelerator and detectors will be subjected to large fluences of hadrons as well as electrons and gammas during the lifetime of the accelerator. Examples are NdFeB permanent magnets which have many p...
متن کاملStudies on electron beam induced DNA damage and repair kinetics in lymphocytes by alkaline comet assay
Background: Exposure to ionizing radiation is known to induce oxidative stress followed by damage to critical biomolecules like lipids, proteins and DNA through radiolysis of cellular water. Since radiation has been widely used as an important tool in therapy of cancer, the detailed investigation regarding the DNA damage and repair kinetics would help to predict the radiation sensitivity of cel...
متن کاملOxidative membrane damage and its involvement in gamma radiation-induced apoptotic cell death.
Background: Recent results have provided increasing evidence to support involvement of membrane damage in the mechanism of ionizing radiation induced killing of mammalian cells. These findings have stimulated renewed interest in evaluating the damage to membrane as a primary initiator in radiation-induced cell killing especially in apoptotic death. The present study was aimed to gain deeper ins...
متن کاملCombined Effects of 528 Hz Sound and X-ray in Peripheral Blood Lymphocytes
Introduction: Radiotherapy is still one of the main options for cancer treatment but it is in association with damage to normal cells as well as the tumor cells. To reduce the injury in normal cells we have evaluated the effect of 528 hertz sound after X irradiation in peripheral blood lymphocytes. Materials and Methods: in this study, peripheral blood was o...
